Here are the 5 best ways to use your hard earned AMEX Membership Rewards Points as of June 2017.
These redemptions are only for airline reward programs that offer some of the best experiences when redeeming Amex points for flights.
When compliling this list, I definitely left out a lot of great contenders I plan to post in the future.
For flights, the award tickets described are typically centered around the U.S./North America and span economy to first class. These options seemed to be the most useful and practical to my readers.
1. Fly From the U.S. to Central or South Africa (KrisFlyer Miles)

Singapore Airlines has a great award price for travel to Central and South Africa in business class. It will only cost 72,500 miles each way when you travel on Star Alliance member airlines. Great deal.
This pricing is lower compared to United’s 80,000 miles each way to fly Star Alliance partners to Central and South Africa. To book with Singapore Airlines, you can transfer from your American Express Membership Rewards points, Chase Ultimate Rewards points, Citi ThankYou Rewards points, and SPG points by transferring them to Singapore Airlines.
2. North America to Europe on Partners (ANA Mileage Club)
You can fly round-trip from the U.S. to Europe in business class for only 88,000 miles, or fly in economy for 55,000 miles. This price used to be lower than it is now.
Keep in mind, watch out for fuel surcharges since they can really add up, but if you can find availability on Air Canada or United you’ll be flying much cheaper.
3. U.S. to the Middle East (Aeroplan)
Air Canada charges 80,000 miles to fly round-trip in economy from the U.S. to the Middle East. What makes it special is the ability to make 2 stopovers in addition to your final destination. Basicaly you get 4 destinations for the price of a round trip. This price is a little lower than United’s 85,000 miles for a round-trip economy ticket.
4. Fly Chinese Airlines in Business Class (SkyMiles)
Many of the Chinese airlines are known for their high end business class seats. When using your Delta miles, you have the ability to book both China Eastern and China Airlines in business class for only 80,000 SkyMiles in each direction.
China Eastern is generally considered to be slightly superior than China Airlines.
You can also fly Delta First Class to Asia for the same mileage cost.
5. Book Cheap Flights to Europe on Brussels Airlines (Etihad)
Brussels Airlines has great business class seats and can be booked with Etihad miles.
Each Brussels Airlines route you are allowed to fly is listed in this chart with the pricing for one-way bookings.
A round-trip economy class booking from New York to Brussels will cost 56,000 miles, and round-trip business class will cost 88,000 miles. Availability is tough to find. Its best to plan to book this redemption at least nine months in advance.
Conclusion
The above list outlines your best ways to redeem Membership Rewards points for international flights.
With some calculated Amex MR points transfers, you can fly Singapore Suites to experience their famous double bed, or fly to Asia in business class.
A round-trip to Brussels for 55k is actually a pretty good deal. I might have to do that one.
It really is an amazing deal. Compared to the standard economy round trip of around 50-60k points.
Great site. Just had a quick read.
