Most people make the mistake, including myself, of using Amex Membership Rewards Points to book hotels directly through the portal. Before I knew any better if how to maximize the hard earned Points, I would book hotels through the Amex Portal. It was convenient, fast, and didn’t require any additional thought. Little did I know, I wasted tens of thousands of Points.
The Amex Portal, although valuable in some areas, is inflated and a waste of Points when used for most hotels. There is a much better option to squeeze the most value out of every point.
Amex MR points can be transferred to Choice Privileges at a 1:1 ratio, making it easy to find excellent hotel redemptions in Europe. For example, you can stay in Italy, Sweden, and other countries in Europe starting at 8,000 points per night. During peak season, these same hotels can easily cost hundreds of dollars per night.

Have you ever transferred Amex MR Points to Choice Hotels?
I agree. I spent 60k Mr Points a few years back on one hotel night. I could have easily transferred to choice hotels. Thanks for the tip.
How interesting. I had my amex Platinum and never knew this trick. I just checked choice hotels and saw some 8,000 a night deals. Amazing Thank you.
Lesson learned. There are much better ways to spend MR points.
Not any more on several of those. They WERE a great deal!
